Burns & Wilcox expands cannabis business

Burns & Wilcox , a wholesale insurance brokerage and underwriting, announced the addition of Jason Scheurle as National Product Leader, Cannabis. Based in Philadelphia, Scheurle collaborates with Burns & Wilcox U.S. teams across the company network.

In his new role as National Product Leader, Scheurle is responsible for developing and expanding the company’s business portfolio of cannabis products nationwide. His role includes partnering with teams across the company’s vast network to leverage market opportunities, strengthening its competitive advantage. He reports to Jodie Kaufman Davis, Senior Vice President, H.W. Kaufman Group; Managing Director, Burns & Wilcox Canada.

In Canada, Burns & Wilcox is a long-time industry player and early-adopter known for its expertise in the space by first creating an exclusive Cannabis Insurance program to capture significant market share. This investment led it to being first-to-market with comprehensive package solutions for the Recreational Cannabis market in Canada, including Property, General Liability, Product Liability, Transit/Cargo, Directors & Officers, and Product Recall coverages.

These significant market accomplishments illustrate the value of the company’s innovation and expertise, providing momentum for its stateside plans, especially given the industry’s market growth in the U.S. totaling a worth of $61 billion.

“We are pleased to add Jason to our team as we continue to expand the Burns & Wilcox Cannabis Insurance business. The rapidly evolving regulatory environment and further legalization in the states exposes cannabis related businesses to new risks, and Jason’s expertise allows us to identify potential gaps in coverage and provide tailored programs for brokers to better serve their clients.” – Kaufman Davis.

Scheurle joins Burns & Wilcox after serving as Head of Cannabis Underwriting at Huckleberry. Previously he spent six years at Hudson as a Senior Underwriter, where he specialized in Excess and Surplus Lines business for binding and middle markets, including Cannabis. Prior to that experience, he spent more than a decade at United States Liability Insurance (USLI) with a focus in Personal, Commercial and Liquor Liability.
