Coterie announces Series A

Cincinnati-based commercial API provider Coterie Insurance announced it has raised a Series A financing round totaling $8.5 million from RPM Ventures, Allos Ventures, and others. Previously, the company raised $3.15 million bringing its total venture funding to $11.65 million.

Established in 2018, the team of 18 operates in the space of AP Intego and Thimble with a B2B2C model that allows it to partner with third-party sites to offer general liability, professional liability and business insurance coverage. Coterie also allows for business shoppers to get a quote online although according to Similar Web and SEMRush the site doesn’t enjoy much direct traffic.

According to our data, it has a partnership with Homee as do AP Inetgo and CoverWallet.

What makes Coterie interesting is that small commercial insurance is a game of curation and partnering with platforms that serve a segment of the small business population can attract customers for fewer dollars than Google ads. What makes Coterie less interesting is that its API is only as good as the carriers and products it links to.
