Francisco Partners to acquire The Weather Company assets from IBM

Francisco Partners, a major investment firm focused on technology businesses, has agreed to buy The Weather Company assets from IBM.

The purchase includes The Weather Company’s consumer and enterprise digital platforms like The Weather Channel app, Weather Underground, and Storm Radar. T

he Weather Company provides weather data to over 415 million people monthly and offers services to over 2,000 businesses.

IBM will keep its sustainability software business but will use The Weather Company’s data for it.

Francisco Partners aims to expand The Weather Company’s offerings beyond forecasting, focusing on how weather affects daily life and providing actionable insights for businesses.

The deal is set to finalize by the end of Q1 2024, pending regulatory approvals.
