New Auto Insurance Startup Merlinio to Target Millennials

Meet Merlinio :

Think: a Richmond, VA-based startup that is looking to help millennials shop for auto insurance. “We provide automagical technological solutions which benefit both insurers and consumers.” According to Richmond Times Dispatch, it plans to go live Feb. 1. BTW, its domain was first created on March, 2016.

Also, the startup is led by Jon Ansell, and according to SEC, it has secured $325,000 in debt (SEC Form D).

PS. Speaking of emerging players in the auto insurance space, thinking of Covered and Clearcover. Covered is a Denver-based digital broker that launched in 2016 with $700K in Seed funding. It has since expanded its product offering beyond home and auto insurance to include pet and short-term rental (Airbnb) insurance. My experience with Covered amounted to an online quote form. Clearcover is a Chicago-based digital MGA that launched with $11.5M in Seed funding and plans to go live sometime this year. “We built technology that makes it really seamless to go from, ‘I’m shopping,’ to ‘I’ve found what I like,’ to ‘I’ve bought a policy” – founder and CEO Kyle Nakatsuji.
