State Farm adds new telematics feature

State Farm has introduced a new feature for its telematics app Drive Safe & Save.

The insurer has pushed out a new update for iOS devices which includes ‘Trip Classification’ – enabling users to update a trip with relevant details.

Currently, the State Farm telematics beacon connects with the first app it finds, leading to potential inaccuracies when two or more people present in the car have the app. With the new feature, State Farm is allowing users to reclassify trips where they were mistakenly classified as drivers. In addition, State Farm is giving users the option to state that they were the drivers but someone else was using their phone during the trip, as the app measures phone distraction.

State Farm’s telematics program is powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics.
